NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE:

On May 15, 012 the AIUEA and the AIU reached a Tentative Agreement for a new contract.  The AIUEA will meet once more with the AIU on May 29, 2012 in order to address residual language items that need to be finalized.  Following that session, we project to hold a contract ratification meeting on a date during the first week of June.  Please check your e-mail and the USPS mail for upcoming information about this meeting.  We will issue a memo when we have confirmed the reservation for the large meeting room at PSEA and established a solid date.

PSEA-PACE is a political action committee established by PSEA to support candidates in Pennsylvania elections. PACE is a voluntary contribution you can make to state and local candidates who support issues related to public education. You can also voluntarily contribute to the NEA-Fund. The National Education Association Fund for Children and Public Education supports pro-public education candidates who are running for federal office.
If you are a new hire who would like to make a political action contribution for PSEA-PACE for local and state elections and/or the NEA-Fund for federal elections, complete the pledge section on the same enrollment used to join the AIUEA. If you are an existing member who would like to contribute to PSEA-PACE and/or the NEA-Fund, contact Jan Pressman to have a contribution form sent to you. You can make a one-time contribution or a continuous year-to year pledge. Only 42 of our 400 members contribute on a regular basis to PACE. We need your support!

Text Box: Sample Letter to write to your State Representatives:
Dear State Representative___________________,
I am a teacher with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit3 and I am asking you to vote against Governor Corbett’s education reform agenda.
The governor’s proposal for vouchers, charter school expansions and evaluations of teachers based on state testing are not what we as teachers need for our profession.
The Governor’s proposal could reverse years of gains that have been done by both Pennsylvania students and teachers alike. In my Intermediate Unit, many jobs and programs had to be cut due to the Governor’s proposal and many children’s daily lives were changed.
Please vote against unaccountable and unproven reforms that will take away even more from our schools and children. An overwhelming number of Pennsylvania residents (over 60%) and my colleagues agree to oppose this proposal.  Over 82% of PA residents agree that legislature should avoid cuts for public schools, even if it means raising taxes or cuts to other state programs!!
Education reform should be about programs that work for our students, not against them!!

Sincerely,

    ______________________

Text Box: PASA Test Administrator Training will still be available online during the Reading/Math and Science test windows. If you have not already done so, there is still time for you to complete the training. If you have completed it already, remember that you may continue to reference the videos for information about test administration. The training site is accessible through the PASA homepage.

Test administrators who view all seven training segments and pass all seven proficiency tests will receive five Act 48 credits. Test administrators who pass all seven proficiency tests only, without watching all seven training segments, will receive three Act 48 credits. (You must score at least 80% in two or less attempts to pass a test.)

Once you complete the training, there are no additional steps for you to take to receive your Act 48 credits. PASA will submit requests for Act 48 credits for those test administrators who have earned them to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) in two waves. The first wave of submissions will be at the end of the Reading/Math test window (3/23) and the second wave of submissions will be at the end of the Science test window (5/25). Because PDE recently suspended the Act 48 program and related requirements for teachers, there will probably be a delay in posting your credits. PDE will bank your credits and officially award them in the future. In the meantime, you will receive a certificate from PASA documenting how many credits you earned so that you can print it for your records.

Sincerely,
PASA Office
